Homework #7 |
November 23, 2015 |
Due November 30, 2015 |
On Monday, November 30, we are going to play the World Climate Exercise. You will play the roles of negotiators at the upcoming 21st Conference of the Parties in Paris. Your goal is to make pledges for your countries so as to keep global average CO2 below 450 ppm and to prevent global average surface air temperature from rising above 2°C above pre-industrial temperatures. You will have to chose when your group will agree to stop increasing greenhouse gas emissions, whne you will start reducing emissions, at what rate you will reduce emissions, what you will do about deforestation, and how much money you will pledge to a Clean Development Fund that will assist the poorest nations. At the same time, you will have to maintain the economy of your own nations.
I have assigned you each to one of three negotiating teams, either representing the Developed countries (such as the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Russia, and western Europe), Developing A (such as India, China, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia), or Developing B (the poorest countries, such as most of Africa, South America, and the Middle East). Here are the teams:

We will use the C-Learn model to evaluate the results of your negotiations, which you can learn about at C-Learn.
